Traditional Oriental Medicine
The Needles Stuff
Traditional Oriental Medicine is based on the collective theories of various countries in the Orient and their traditional methods of treating disease and prolonging life.
The Oriental Traditions I will disucss here are primarily from Chinese, Japanese & Vietnamese descent .
They are BIG on longevity, which was part of the reason for the development of this form of medicine. It started some 5,000 years ago and includes a whole system of treatments including Acupuncture, Herbalism, Spinal Diagnosis, Nutrition, Exercise, Anmo Fu (Internal Organ Massage) & Chinese Physiotherapy (Tui Na).
Traditional Oriental Medicine works on the basis that there are meridians that run along the body. These meridians correspond to internal organs, internal structures, emotional & psychological states. Each of these meridians are made up of different elements and the state of their balance determines the state of health.
Meridians are like rivers of energy that flow throughout the body. There are several points allocated alongside these energy lines, when a needle or pressure is applied into these points it either increases or slows down the flow of energy through that meridian. This stimulates the nervous system and allows the body to find out how to return to it's natural state of balance. A thorough diagnosis based on inspection of the tongue, pulse & spine through muscle testing helps determine the treatment process.
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles in various points all over the body- don't worry! The needles only go through the surface of the skin, are sterilised and have never been used before.
I will specifically focus on 2 systems.
Auricular Acupuncture because of my experience with this form of treatment. I have speficially used this method because of my large client group required an effective, powerful treatment that was less invasive. The results I have achieved include weight loss, addictions (specifically narcotics) and nerve pain such as sciatica.

Clinical Acupuncture because there is a scientist deep down inside of me. Throughout my training I have realised that the best way to gain knowledge is to share it. As a clinician I am linked with several organisations that endorse investigated results, therefore, I am unable to share something unless it has some heavy duty evidence to support my reasonings to apply it!
My treatment of Auricular Acupuncture has given me the great opportunity to achieve high success rates withing the field of substance mis-use where I practise within clinics all over Newcastle Upon Tyne.
I am also Key Complementary Therapist using Auricular Acupuncture to alleviate the symptoms associated with the side effects caused by the new medical treatment for Hepatits C. A cure has been developed! Watch this space for published research!
